For many children, school lunch is the only meal they eat all day. Trump’s budget would cut $1.7 billion from child nutrition and eliminate food assistance for millions—literally taking food out of kids’ mouths. This is not humane. This budget isn’t humane. He is not humane.

It is not the job of the federal gov't to feed children. First family, then extended family, then church or temple or mosque, then local town, then county and maybe state. Never the federal gov't. Any federal program will be wasteful and inefficient. @RepBonnie @SenBooker

Food Assistance programs are among the most efficient programs we have. School lunches are among the most efficient food programs.

Maybe so. But we would do well to use the subsidiarity principle and keep these programs local. They would be even MORE efficient. Layers of bureaucracy make little sense.

My state gov’t doesn’t want to fund pub sch properly. It’s in the bottom 5 of sch funding so they are not going to provide food. The local comm doesn’t want to increase funding for anything that raises taxes. Churches aren’t that giving anymore.

Not to mention the number of people who are employed because of the SNAP program, school lunches, Meals On Wheels, and other supplemental nutrition programs. Ask your local grocery store owner if they would like to cut out these programs.....
