    Today, will sign my Emmett Till into law. For the first time in U.S. history, we are finally make lynching a FEDERAL hate crime. And we are doing it in Emmett Till’s name. It’s time to right this historic injustice.

    I wholeheartedly encourage the Dept. of the to nationally recognize Roberts Temple. Emmett’s open–casket funeral shined a light on the grim reality of segregation & racism, helping spark the Civil Rights Moment. Future generations need to know what happened here.

    I joined , members of ’s family, & community stakeholders in touring the historic Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ — the site of Emmett’s funeral. Roberts Temple is under consideration to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
