As we continue to honor #BlackHistoryMonth
we recognize Charles Smith, who made groundbreaking history as Washington’s first African-American Supreme Court Justice. He worked in academia, as an associate dean for the @UWSchoolofLaw, inspiring the hearts and minds of law students.
He was an example for others and provided mentorship for younger African-Americans. Throughout his life, he used his legal expertise to advocate for the rights of marginalized populations, such as Japanese-Americans who were placed in internment camps during WWII.
His efforts resulted in reparations for interned Japanese-Americans.
