Last week, the National Transportation Safety Board reported that the accident would have been prevented by the use of Positive Train Control (PTC) technology. I have consistently supported upgrades to our rail infrastructure including full funding for PTC technology.
In June 2015, I expressed to leadership in the House of Representatives that PTC technology was needed to avoid any additional Amtrak train crashes. I requested full funding of $475 million for PTC technology on Amtrak trains.
We need to do more to ensure the safety of passengers, and this legislation is a step in the right direction.
