I opposed the effort in the U.S. House tonight to permanently authorize an identification program known as BITMAP – a pilot program run by ICE within the Department of Homeland Security.

Given these serious concerns, it would be wrong to indefinitely extend and enshrine in the U.S. Code a program where considerable doubts remain. Under the Trump Administration, both DHS and ICE have proven track record of discriminatory actions.

Congress should not be expanding their license to discriminate, but instead be conducting vigorous oversight to ensure privacy and civil rights protections are defended.
