Through discussions w/local veterans we worked to identify some of the root causes. Initially, we discovered the problems seem to largely stem from unfilled management positions, an over-reliance on “acting” roles that lack decision-making authority & frequent leadership turnover
These deficiencies had culminated in an unacceptable de facto paralysis in the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. My team & I worked with former VA Secretary Shulkin to bring in a “Tiger Team” to focus on management &leadership improvements for the Puget Sound Health Care System.
After the Tiger Team’s review, the Puget Sound Health Care System named Acting Director Michael Tadych the full-time director. Since he has taken on the job as director, many constituents have lauded his accessibility & the number of improvements that he has made.
Unfortunately, the high number of vacancies and lack of retention still exist as a problem in Puget Sound Health Care System and the Veterans Health Administration as a whole.
