Clearly this crisis is continuing unabated, despite what this administration would have you believe. This week, I adamantly opposed the Republican immigration bills that were brought before the House of Representatives.

The bills exacerbate the family separation & detention crisis by allowing for the indefinite detention of both unaccompanied children & family units. My bill, the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act, would end the Trump Administration’s abuses of the immigration detention system.

My bill would create special protections for young people, primary caregivers, survivors of torture and gender-based violence, and asylum seekers, and allow children and families to live outside of detention as they await the outcome of their cases.

As the administration continues to confuse and deceive the American people on this critical issue, these families cannot wait. We must take up and pass the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act.
