Every time Mitt Romney trends I feel like I’m morally obligated to share this video of him ironing his clothes while they are still on his body

This week we saw the ushering in of the most diverse class of Congress ever. We also saw some truly ridiculous media coverage about women in politics - from the “likability” discourse to pearl-clutching over the word “motherfucker.”

As a woman of color, I've been told countless times to "tone down" my look; that red lipstick and hoop earrings are not professional. Seeing rock her hoops & red lips to be sworn into Congress was important to ME and so many other people.

Lip+hoops were inspired by Sonia Sotomayor, who was advised to wear neutral-colored nail polish to her confirmation hearings to avoid scrutiny. She kept her red. Next time someone tells Bronx girls to take off their hoops, they can just say they’re dressing like a Congresswoman.

Right. Because it’s the swearing that has ruined *dignity* in Washington. Not the dehumanizing policies designed and implemented by the GOP in the hopes of benefitting few while disenfranchising many.

Newsrooms notoriously skew white and male - and it’s time that we change this. Representation in media is a fundamental necessity in the fight towards equity and equality.

Journalism is absolutely fundamental to the principles of democracy and freedom - but it’s imperative that our political media participates in some introspection with regard to their own biases.

Kirk, thanks for sharing Loujain and Fahad’s story with me. Devastating, and it needs to be told. They’ll be in my thoughts, and more than that, we need to put our values front and center in our foreign policy. I’ll be contacting the Saudi Ambassador about her case.

As we say goodbye to human jellyfish Paul Ryan, I’m reminded of the time he asked for a picture and Rogen refused, saying he couldn’t wait for the moment Paul Ryan didn’t have one iota of the power he currently held. We made it, Seth.

You, a scared misogynist: “This video of having fun and dancing will surely own the libs!” Me, in the midst of memorizing her choreography: “Turn it up, the chorus is the best part.”
