    If your academic position is asking for reference letters at the application stage, you are asking for.... Lower 50 apps X 3 refs X 1 h = 150 h Mid 150 apps x 3 refs x 1.5 h = 675 h Upper 300 apps x 3 refs x 2 h = 1800 h ...of colleagues time. Perhaps wait for the long list?
