‘Standard practice’ is not a good argument: ethical issues pertaining to FGM also apply to male circumcision - bodily integrity, non-harm, consent etc. Also, ‘protection against HIV’ argument has reduced condom use in some African countries and increased HIV infection of women

I agree 'standard practice' is not a good argument. Neither is pretending there is no reputable medical support for male circumcision, unlike FGM. Our attempt to explain the nature of the debate to journalists - which is our raison d'être - has been misunderstood as support.

Circumcision does not prevent STDs: https://www.hindawi.com/archive/2013/109846/ … And it's more traumatic for children because infants can't recieve full anesthesia without dying. We use DPNB for pain relief and it is woefully inadequate:https://www.researchgate.net/publication/11419014_Pain_During_Mogen_or_PlastiBell_Circumcision …

Thank you for sharing this research. There are a range of other studies with a variety of findings for example https://www.nhs.uk/news/lifestyle-and-exercise/circumcision-and-stis/ … We did not say it prevents STDs but the balance of evidence is that it provides some protection...

Some research suggests removing the tonsils or appendix helps protect against certain illnesses. Should all newborns have these removed as standard?

“certainly less traumatic for children than adults.” Really? Circumcision in infants means being forcibly restrained and having the penis cut while fully conscious, with little to no pain relief. The children scream in agony during the protracted process.
-
Indeed. Infants have zero to process what's happening to them. Here's a short lecture by a psychologist who has studied infant
& trauma:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ec92eRrnWdY&app=desktop …

I was significantly traumatised as a child in ways that I would have been able to cope with as an adult. There's nothing complicated about cutting bits off kids ,to at best keep a traditional alive. It's sick.
-
Indeed it is sick and can’t fathom why a perfectly designed protector for millennia is deemed complicated - bonkers and needs to end

Nice try at attempting to justify a barbaric Bronze Age cult practice by referencing supposed health benefits of which our forefathers could have had no knowledge and which modern day science finds dubious, at best. Circumcision of children is genital mutilation. It’s abhorrent

Standard practice? Now ~55% and falling, and only that high because the USA health insurance industry continues to profit from it, unlike the rest of the English-speaking world (with universal healthcare systems) that have given it up, without ill-effects.pic.twitter.com/Gs6UvWqUZ6

Cutting bits off children is child abuse. Pure and simple.

In Europe (pretty similar socio-economic and health profile to USA) circumcision is practically unknown. I don't see epidemics of diseases any worse than in USA...

No they’re not; it’s very simple to those that trust evidence rather than an imaginary fairy

What evidence? Is not this highly disputable?

"Less traumatic for children" - really? There's evidence that it causes life-long psychological trauma, associates sex with pain forever and is implicated in sudden infant death syndrome. If you want to sacrifice a body part to your god, sacrifice yours & not your child's.
