Presumably the formal announcement of the Flores rule. Reporters; please do not repeat without context his claim that before 2015, families were detained for 45 days on average. This is only true because most gave up. Those who applied for asylum were held for months and months!

Families who were quickly deported drove down averages significantly. Even at the quickest, the asylum process for those held in family detention required 4-6 months. If they lost their cases and appealed, parents and kids were locked up for up to a year or more.

In 2015, Berks had families detained for a year. They were only finally released en masse b/c Judge Gee was about to issue her Flores decision and the govt needed to pretend they were in compliance. Only a few wks before, they were all denied parole.
