    Saw 3 patients in a row this week who wanted to start bupe prior to release from jail. Despite ages varying from early 30s to late 50s, they each had 15+ years of heroin use under belt. Along w/ starting bupe, I try to explore interest in various forms of recovery support. 1/

    First Step Act has many good provisions. Just not this one. Sec 607 of requires Bureau of Prisons Director to write a report on treatment for oud. The BOP Director shall "consider" medications to treat oud. But these shouldn't replace drug-free approaches.

    Washington state’s Grays Harbor County votes to close syringe exchange because it’s “not government’s job”. On the contrary, protecting public health & safety is the definition of government’s job. That’s what syringe programs do.
