Filing objections to duly filed petitions is already an anti-democratic measure. The BOE has its own regulatory authority to eliminate incorrect or obviously fraudulent petitions. Why go the extra step? It’s because they’re scared of a fair fight at the ballot box. 2/5

The practice behind incumbents challenging petitions during a public health crisis is PRECISELY the self-interested behavior people don't want from our County Democratic Parties. (Even if they’re not incumbents, it’s still not right.)

It’s bad enough that someone would take advantage of a worldwide pandemic. We’re in the middle of a public health crisis & a few bad actors are more worried about knocking people off the ballot for their own selfish gain? This is shameful.

We stand in solidarity with anyone against whose petitions an objection was filed. This practice must stop.

Who got knocked off?
-
Hi Rob, no one's been knocked off yet because the process requires objectors to file what's called a "specification of objections" by the end of March 30; if that happens, then the Board of Elections will schedule a hearing. The first hearing date is currently scheduled for 4/21.

Hate the game, not the players. Instead of characterizing people who are taking advantage of rules, fight to change the rules. Were you here when "ad/ed" routinely bounced grassroots candidates. We fought that and won.
-
We are fighting to change the game. But that can only be accomplished by having a seat at the table.

I totally agree! It’s time to change it! Let’s get together be like MO, where we pay a flat fee and sign an affidavit and May the best candidate get voted in. This is how Democracy supposed to be like.

It would be great if we can have some news coverage about this latest attack on democracy in NYC. Someone decided that it was more important to put BOE staff further at risk of
#COVID19 so as to maintain power and keep voters from having a voice.@Gothamist@nytimes@THECITYNY -
Agreed! Continue tagging the news outlets as the people should be made aware that democracy is under attack by our own neighbors!
