Dems' only hope for the midterms (but also one I'm not ready to dismiss): that the current GOP coalition is overly reliant on peripherally engaged voters who only bother to show up when Trump is on the ballot.

And the likelihood of that is petty high since he won't be on any ballots next year...

Well this is one of the most terrifying things I’ve read lately especially coming from you, Dave.

so far this seems to be a reasonable theory of the case, in the absence of evidence against it.

How about another source of hope? That the resistance we built for the last 4 1/2 years keeps going. That we continue to organize.
Cuz that's a thing still.

Environment matters. Turnout matters. But so do candidates. Melanie Stansbury was a tested, left-of-center candidate who ran a good race and raised a good amount of money.
Dems have to run candidates who fit the district. And “the woke wing” of the party has to let them be.

Not the only hope, Dave. In 2022, the Dem field program returns in force- ie, door knocking and the like. Yes, only helps on the margins but I'll take 2% margins in the key races.

Is this primarily due to redistributing massively favoring R’s?
