Agree. I initially mocked Dan Patrick out natural impulse but in this case, he does have a point. Why shouldn't doors get locked from the outside/unlocked from the inside. Anyone that needs to enter the school after the bell rings should go to the front and sign in.

Most schools operate this way. I live in a town of less than 3k in west Texas and our elementary operates this way. That’s not what he said

Fire Codes require doors. I would bet most schools keep them locked and funnel kids to certain doors. And when school starts make everyone enter at one entrance

Our schools for years, since before Sandy Hook, have 1 entrance for everyone. Locked at all times except 20 minutes at school start when it’s staffed. Teachers badge in. All others must be buzzed in after showing ID and stating your business.
