We were awarded an in-kind grant from Google to run $10,000 worth of ads per month on their search results pages, to promote our website and our mission to bring public records back to the public. We're going to have a lot of fun with this.

If ancestor was from New York City, voter registration records are available (for $ fee). I found my ancestors' political leanings very interesting--and lots of other info on the forms as well. Thank you to for getting these records out in public!

Ok, what's the deal w taking public records out of the hands of the public? They don't belong to an administration or public *servant* These are our records. We paid for them to be created, we pay for them to be stored, catalogued & preserved, & it is our right to access them.

Uh, we’re headquartered in California where every birth, every death, and almost all marriage records ARE public, open to everyone in uncertified format. Millions of people live here, with decades of open records, and weirdly, the sky hasn’t fallen. Thanks for playing, though!

So, if you think someone else's birth certificates should be entirely public, why don't you post your own? You're so eager to expose everyone else and yet you remain anonymous and hide your own birth certificate.

Massachusetts has always, always been an open records state, since colonial times. We're not gonna just sit around and let it get locked up, not on our watch. Public records belong to the public.

BTW we quoted all that because had some anonymous Twitter troll mansplain to us just this week about why "no one" really needs access to vital records, they should all be closed, even if "closed" really means only corporations can buy them, through the DMV or EVVE-FOD or whatevs.

The Boston Globe and other newspapers are opposing the proposed rule change and are already publishing articles and editorials against it:

Check out the Massachusetts Genealogical Council () website about the new proposed change and why we need to stop it, and more importantly HOW to stop it. Our board member Barbara Mathews () helped write it:

Hey, for everyone letting us know about the heinous backdoor attempt by the MA governor to close off all MA vital records -- we're on it. (We say 'backdoor' because this proposed rules change, for an agency that barely costs any $, was somehow stuck into the budget, not a bill.)

HELP! MA wants to pass a law to restrict access to records that are currently available. What can we do to stop this?

So distressing that NARA's potential destruction of ICE records that warned about in 2018 has come to pass. (See 2018 thread at )

I’m so glad RTR is preparing to tackle Maryland. I grew up as a teen going 2 MSA and coming home with stacks of records to help build my tree. It is a gold mine. I’m thousands of miles away now.
