The Original PC Gamer article was updated with sources, inviting the devs publicly adding their intent to implement a toggle in the steam forums, and the exact words they said during the interview. So yeah, looks like their defense of we never said that, doesn't hold up.

1/2From what I read on the article update, they still have not concretely confirmed that such a feature is being implenented. A feature being worked on doesn't mean it will make it into the game (especially a minor client-side cosmetic feature) and saying they "may" do something
