The Researcher API/CT alternative is an odd thing. I like/appreciate the team behind it, and they want to do good work. That said, access to it is fundamentally broken. Journalists don't have access, and the barriers to getting students onboard *and trained* are substantial.

So instead, the structures are set up such that primarily professors, post-docs, and senior PhD students can effectively use the platform. There's not time to get an MS or senior undergrad onboarded, and many junior PhD students don't have the experience to use the platform.

The near totality of journalists are the operational arm of state propaganda machine at this point. This isn’t the 70’s.
“Executives could no longer stomach supporting a feature that resulted in so many public relations crises for Meta.” Those public relations crises are created in the first place by FB’s platforming of disinformation and bullshit, and its disinterest in stopping that platforming.
