The Whig Party ran four presidential candidates simultaneously in the 1836 general election. Too bad there wasn't social media then.

Based on my extensive twitter research, my guess is that three of those candidates were Jill Stein and the other was Susan Sarandon. Truly a house divided

It was an attempt to get their candidates, on horseback, in front of voters, instead of surrogates, then with enough Whigs elected to Congress, the election would be decided in the House, assuming no one rcvd electoral majority, and then a Whig would be selected - it backfired.
