I grew up hearing about weird things my Grandma's family did during the Great Depression like it was a mythological dark time I would never experience but now I find myself with a lot of those same habits
My German great aunt kept her World War II habit her whole life of putting water in an empty jam jar, shaking it, and drinking it so as not to waste any.

Variation that I like of this is putting a few tea bags in a mostly used up honey jar to make sweet tea concentrate!
