I love Tacoma. Chose to live here after living all over the country and the world. For me, Olympia is too small, and Seattle is too expensive and a lot of Seattle is starting to look like it was all built out of the same developer’s Lego playset. Also a lot of tech bros there.

The aroma is very overplayed. I understand it used to be worse in the past, but I’ve only ever smelled it a couple times when I was in the port.

For a city of its size, it has an astounding number of great places to go, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Point Defiance park is amazing – the second largest city park in the country after Central Park in NYC.

Absolutely beautiful views of water. One of the most racially diverse places in the PNW. If you want to totally get away from smoke, you won’t if you come here, but it is better than California in that regard. We did have a week when I only went outside to walk my dog.

If you like hiking, the trails near Tacoma are a lot less busy then the ones near Seattle, where you sometimes are literally in a crowded, single file line going up the mountain. The Olympic Peninsula and Mount Rainier are easy drives.

I was worried before I moved here that the rain and the winters would be depressing, but they actually don’t bother me, and the rain makes everything super green. And I can go outside without instantly getting a sunburn :)
