A viewer on my M4A live stream today had a heartbreaking story. Her mother has diabetes and at 61 years old, her blood sugar is down to 11, because for the first time in her life she has insulin that's for humans and not for pets.
That's right. Her mom has been taking dog insulin for about 10 years. After a stroke at 58, she got barely any medical care for it and when the doctors were told she didn't have insurance, they wouldn't give her the expensive treatment that would have saved some of her mobility.
They only let her stay 30 days in rehab, so now she's permanently disabled . MEDICARE FOR ALL
11 will kill you
11 is pretty low. Can you survive that? When I had a dog with diabetes, I bought insulin for people at Walmart.
There's two measurements for blood sugar. I'm assuming it's the mmol/l scale, and in that case an 11 is high for a typical person but it's good for someone with diabetes. If it is on the mg/dl scale it would be severe hypoglycemia and the person wouldn't be tweeting about it.
