Canada has the same problem--too few supplies, beds.
A key feature of our economic system is “just in time” inventory, where a business only has just the amount of a thing it needs to profit right now. This is a problem re: hospital beds during a pandemic. Reason #2,878 to remove the profit motive from healthcare.

Yes. But I think the point is that maybe the most critical medical supplies needed for a pandemic response, natural disaster, or war, shouldn’t be “subject” to JIT-GSC management. The Pentagon ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT use JIT for missiles/munitions/ordinance or military aircraft.

There are not enough beds on a regular day without a pandemic. It’s not going to change. There are only 45,00 ICU beds for all of the United States. It will probably be worse after this pandemic. Many will be screwed.

Yeah I doubt most people get how 'just in time' links closely to Disaster Capitalism whereby when a crisis is created the corporations leap forward with control, dollar capture and PR propaganda. Why stock inventory?
