This is an underpaid, overlooked group. Districts allocate few funds for teaching assistants. Too bad. They are the nuts and bolts to their various programs.

I agree that Mumbai has one of the highest costs of living (rent-wise) in India, but $2600 for one bedroom is quite high. Are they overcharging you because they know you're from abroad & you pay in dollars? Try and find out how much they'd charge an Indian for the same apartment.

The issue here isn't the pay though. It's the costs of living, tuition, etc. Increasing pay is just a bandage over a festering wound.
