Another woman said she gets $750 in SS and her rent is $650. I have been thinking a lot about how I’d make that work. She wanted my lit but didn’t want to open the screen door so I gave it to her through a tear in the screen.

Gary was delighted that I was the first politician who has ever come in person to his door. I know how he feels bc the only people who come to my door are sales people, missionaries, and the mail carrier.

As I canvassed the rest of the neighborhood, Gary sent people to me. He told me the names of a young neighbor couple who aren’t registered. “I know they’re old enough!! Get on them!!” The young couple told me they’d register & that they wish the streets would get fixed.

Last story: a woman answered the door & said, “I’m sorry, my brother just died. I can’t talk.” Her voice quavered & her face crumpled. She looked like she’d stopped sobbing to answer the door but could only hold it in for so long. I don’t have a brother, but I know how she feels.

I remember a woman describing how disrespectful the Chicago Police Department was when her son was murdered. The priority was cleaning things up before the White Sox fans arrived for the game.

I think Ive decided to do this for Bernie in California in the next few weeks. Money donations are great but talking to people gives incredible insight and is probably the best way to retort all the negative bullshit hurled at his campaign.
