I would actually be able to afford insurance. For me, there’s no point in buying insurance with a $6K deductible. I might as well save the money I pay in premiums because I’m not getting anything out of it anyway so why bother?

There wouldn't even be anything to afford. The increase in taxes would be significantly less than the premiums/deductibles/copays from private insurance. No more health insurance. Just healthcare.

Would save me about $300/year. 1k/month would be 12k/year- $300 = $11700/year. That's just me.

It's not so much the deductibles and copays. (I recognize my privilege there.) It's that health insurance ties me to an employer.
