Trump will hurl wild accusations at Dems no matter what we do. We must do the right thing: demilitarize the border and border crossings. People fleeing their countries for better lives are not a danger. Many are escaping the very gangs that Trump accuses them of being part of.
As @johnastoehr says in his newsletter today, "There should be a deliberate legal process by which immigrants" can become Americans. "The Democrats are complicit in the creation of concentration camps and the deaths of at least a dozen children [...]
because the Democrats have for years negotiated from the GOP’s position, which is that the border can never be secure enough and that anything smacking of reform smacks of amnesty. "
It's time for Democrats to grow a backbone and stand up for freedom: freedom to migrate and seek a better life. Freedom from violence. Freedom from government oppression. Our government can start by stopping its own oppression of the vulnerable.
Freedom is a Democratic value 
We need to stop caving to the Right's rhetoric by talking about the need to "secure our border," as our WA-06 incumbent does. Secure it from what? Babies drowning in rivers? We need to open our hearts and our arms and "welcome the stranger"
