I make eyeglasses for a living and definitely recommend against using Zenni or those other mail order places. They're often made wrong and their frames are cheaply made. Plus, as you mention, you can't properly fit someone for a progressive or bifocal over the internet.
Totally agree. I think astigmatism complicates it as well, right?

Not really. A progressive needs the optician to measure the height of the fitting cross (a point on the lens typically placed in front of your pupil). This height will vary depending on the frame you pick. Astigmatism something different.

Astigmatism just means your eye focuses light at two different points because it shaped a little more like a football than a sphere. The optician can measure an occular center height for a single vision prescription, but it isn't strictly necessary for everyone.
