A woman got vaginal surgery in Honduras due to damage from a severe rape, and then fled to the U.S., losing stitches en route. Despite repeated requests, she didn't see a gynecologist for FIVE MONTHS while in ICE custody. A gynecologist said she needs another surgery.
But she won't be able to get it while she's in detention and will have to wait until she's released. It is unclear when she will be released.
This is a violation of ICE's own standards, the 5th Amendment of the Constitution, which mandates adequate medical care for civil detainees, and international human rights (including the Convention Against Torture & the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights).
