This is appalling. More Americans *are* dying of drug overdoses every year than died in the Vietnam War, and the majority are opioid overdoses. The CAUSE is:https://twitter.com/VICENews/status/1085323324236939265 …
1) Pharmaceutical companies creating & peddling addictive medications while telling everyone they were safe. 2) Doctors prescribing like candy. Additionally, most heroin & fentanyl come into the U.S. in vehicles through ports of entry. NOT in areas where a border wall would be.
About 80% of people who use heroin first misused prescription opioids. As a result, people are dying in an epidemic that's getting worse every year, and those who aren't dying are living lives of loneliness and despair.
Like in Grays Harbor County, which has high rates of poverty and addiction, yet doesn't have a detox center that accepts Medicaid.
We don't need a wall. We need compassion.
We need to put people over profit.
We need #MedicareForAll that includes drug treatment.
