Heading, with great apprehension, to a school reunion bringing together several year classes. The combination of looking back and being inundated with news from across the Sea has brought to surface a suppressed memory from my early teens, one that destroyed my sense of worth.

In broad daylight, at a carneval, I was grabbed by a boy - a bully, an older brother of a classmate - who started dragging me behind a tent. He made sure I understood how privileged I should feel for having been chosen to experience what he planned to do with me.

Terrified I fought back but was no match for his brute force. Fortunately an employee saw the situation and intervened allowing me to escape. The incident didn’t last long but it had an everlasting impact on me. I buried the memory and didn’t tell anyone but my closest friend.

These are only some early examples from a life time of experiences with
#sexualharassment and there are more painful ones, as well. I’m not asking for pity, I’m celebrating the wind of change the#MeToo
has created. @LauraSHHolgate thank you for being my inspiration and hero2 replies 0 retweets 3 likesShow this thread -
We can only achieve
#genderequity and#equality if we bring the men onboard, that is why the#HeForShe
is crucial. I’m hoping to raise my boys better, to value every human being, regardless of their gender, ethnicity or social standing. #HumanRights are for all3 replies 0 retweets 9 likesShow this thread
Started to write a comment and realized @EdWhiting1 said exactly what I wanted to say- only better. (not the first time!) Stay strong and good luck at the reunion. You have persevered and become- among other things- a GHS hero!
