We had a neighbour tell a story about her family in post war Germany. Meat was scarce so her mother bought some from the black market. When cooked it swelled up. A butcher later told them it was probably human meat.

It's Lenin-grad. You can't just leave the city, renamed after the "father" of Soviet Union. There was a lot of "pride" and ideology in the decisions made in that war. Decisions that brought USSR to the horrific death toll
