Bader requests one test flight in a German Messerschmidt, to see if it's as good as a British fighter; Galland refuses: "You'd escape- & now that we've met, I don't want to have to shoot at you again."
Douglas Bader has asked his German captors to air-drop a message over the UK: "Tell my boys & wife I'm fine, & get me my spare legs, & a new pipe."
Royal Air Force have parachuted a spare pair of artificial legs for captured pilot Douglas Bader. RAF refused a German offer to let a British plane land on Luftwaffe airfield & deliver the legs- dropped them during a bombing run.
Brave guy and an amazing force of personality but his whole “Big Wing” theory was asinine.
even later tried to escape.
It's no wonder he crashed his plane if he was pissed.
I guess that must have been the shortest leg of the trip.
How dare you
