Honest question: There’s a big push, which I support, for universal background checks including mental-health checks for purchasing firearms, in order to try and prevent mass shootings. If mental illness isn’t a factor in mass shootings, why the push?

I read that. It says nothing about the push for background checks whatsoever.

I leave it to you to find the rest. There’s also some reading between the lines required, as well as thinking through the implications of what was written.

I provided studies where there was no reading between the lines required. “Reading between the lines” is not scientific.
