There are people who are *quite* insistent about mental illness *not* being a factor in mass shootings. It doesn’t seem to me to be a principled or evidenced position, but rather an attempt to prevent stigma against the majority of mentally ill people as a result. 1/
But there’s a big push, which I support, for universal background checks (including mental-health checks) for firearm purchases, in order to try and prevent mass shootings. If mental illness isn’t a factor in mass shootings, why the push? 2/2
I agree mental illness is a problem. What most wouldn’t like is that most police wouldn’t pass the mental health tests. Dont be testing the public and not the government also!
