Statistically, how much more likely are people to be victims rather than perpetrators of public mass shootings? You’re conflating and misusing statistics. I’m trying to help. You are *not* in the same category as mass shooters.

I’m not conflating and misusing statistics. There have been studies done on the relationship of mental illness and violence. I told you exactly what the studies show.

The studies lump all mental illnesses together. Do you believe all mental illnesses are equally as likely to result in outward violence?

Given what I just shared about my life and the fact some depressives have killed? Given that every human is capable of monstrous acts, even if they are 100% sane (as the Friday shooter in Texas is)? Yes. I do. Sane or mentally ill, we are all capable of unspeakable evils.

Every human being is *not* equally capable of monstrous acts. If that were true, in a country with 100 million gun owners and over 350 million unregistered guns, we’d all be shot by now.

The love of my life was murdered by gun violence. In 1994. When mass shootings were almost unheard of.

Your love was murdered by a murderer. And I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine the pain of living through something like that. But you should know the rate of gun homicides peaked in 1993.

It shouldn’t be too much to ask that we DO SOMETHING. Try something. Throw a possible solution at the wall and see if it sticks. If it doesn’t throw another. Keep throwing until something finally for God’s sake stops the killing—or at least slows it.

“Do something” is only logical if there’s evidence that specific “something” would actually help. Banning *anything* for which there is a market doesn’t work. Drugs, alcohol, immigration, gambling, prostitution, or guns. Same.

Just remember that although banning doesn’t work, regulating does. America used to have a terrible drunk driving fatality rate. We regulated both drinking and driving. Slowly, it worked. It changed not only our laws, but our culture.

Drunk driving is much more complicated than that. Fewer people die in part because cars are so much safer. Arrests go up and down depending largely on enforcement strategies at various municipalities. Also, ride-sharing apps help. And there’s much more.
