The studies lump all mental illnesses together. Do you believe all mental illnesses are equally as likely to result in outward violence?

Given what I just shared about my life and the fact some depressives have killed? Given that every human is capable of monstrous acts, even if they are 100% sane (as the Friday shooter in Texas is)? Yes. I do. Sane or mentally ill, we are all capable of unspeakable evils.

Every human being is *not* equally capable of monstrous acts. If that were true, in a country with 100 million gun owners and over 350 million unregistered guns, we’d all be shot by now.

The love of my life was murdered by gun violence. In 1994. When mass shootings were almost unheard of.

Your love was murdered by a murderer. And I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine the pain of living through something like that. But you should know the rate of gun homicides peaked in 1993.

It shouldn’t be too much to ask that we DO SOMETHING. Try something. Throw a possible solution at the wall and see if it sticks. If it doesn’t throw another. Keep throwing until something finally for God’s sake stops the killing—or at least slows it.

“Do something” is only logical if there’s evidence that specific “something” would actually help. Banning *anything* for which there is a market doesn’t work. Drugs, alcohol, immigration, gambling, prostitution, or guns. Same.

There *is* evidence that there are things we can do to change this. Let’s try those things. How many have to die because the framers of the Constitution never dreamed there would someday be guns that can fire 45 rounds per minute?

That’s not why people are dying. To put this in perspective since you’ll likely cite Australia next: Australia bought back about 600,000 guns, all of which were registered beforehand. We have at minimum 350 million *unregistered* guns. That’s 583 times the number, unregistered.

I said nothing about Australia and had no plans to. I mentioned the enormous difference between guns of the Revolutionary War era and guns of today. I also mentioned fine, let’s change our socioeconomics. I’m open to any reasonable strategy. I’m not open to doing nothing.

The shooter in Texas used two weapons with a much, much lower rate of fire than 45 rounds per minute. He used a pump-action shotgun and a revolver.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/05/19/you-can-do-this-with-anything-santa-fe-shooting-suspects-choice-of-guns-complicates-debate-over-assault-rifles/ …
