Dear everybody, If your reaction to being turned down for a date or embarrassed is to go get guns and kill the person who did it along with many others, you’re not an asshole, you’re a sick person who needs serious psychiatric help. Our (mental) healthcare is atrocious.

Those studies you’re citing only include diagnosed mental illnesses. The issue is that diagnoses usually lead to help. We have a terrible mental-health infrastructure here and these shooters are *definitely* mentally ill. They’re usually undiagnosed.

They are correlated. I’m not “othering” anything. The studies being cited only reference *diagnosed* mental illnesses. This Santa Fe shooter had no diagnoses. I’ll bet you $1000 he’ll be diagnosed very soon. Most mass shooters don’t survive to be diagnosed.
