Dear boys, If your reaction to being turned down by a girl is to shoot her and a bunch of other people as revenge, maybe you're just an asshole and this is why you can't get dates? Try not being an asshole. See if you get more dates that way. Just a thought...

Dear everybody, If your reaction to being turned down for a date or embarrassed is to go get guns and kill the person who did it along with many others, you’re not an asshole, you’re a sick person who needs serious psychiatric help. Our (mental) healthcare is atrocious.

I speak as someone with mental illness: depression. I am no danger to anyone other than myself. That’s true of *most* victims of mental illness. Statistically, the mentally ill are far more likely to be victims, not perpetrators, of violence. Please stop blaming mental illness.

Men and women aren’t the same. And men are 3x more likely to be diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (sociopathy) and have an earlier onset of schizophrenia. Most mental illnesses aren’t outwardly violent. Men are more likely to suffer from violent mental illnesses.

Equally important, compare crime statistics. Men batter women with greater frequency than the reverse. Men commit rape with greater frequency than women. Men murder with greater frequency than women. These are facts.

Right. Because men and women are different.

Ah, but what causes the difference? Nature or nurture? I found studies very suggestive it’s nurture.

I suffer from depression, and our shambles of a mental health system has left me mostly untreated. I definitely agree our system needs radical improvements. But statistically the mentally ill are far more likely to be victims, not perpetrators, of violence.

Statistically, how much more likely are people to be victims rather than perpetrators of public mass shootings? You’re conflating and misusing statistics. I’m trying to help. You are *not* in the same category as mass shooters.
