Those studies you’re citing only include diagnosed mental illnesses. The issue is that diagnoses usually lead to help. We have a terrible mental-health infrastructure here and these shooters are *definitely* mentally ill. They’re usually undiagnosed.

I understand your thoughts. There’s got to be something “wrong” with folks who commit mass murder. But it’s not mental illness- undiagnosed or otherwise. It’s a toxic stew of anger and violence in our culture. That’s a much larger problem to tackle. In the meantime,

They are correlated. I’m not “othering” anything. The studies being cited only reference *diagnosed* mental illnesses. This Santa Fe shooter had no diagnoses. I’ll bet you $1000 he’ll be diagnosed very soon. Most mass shooters don’t survive to be diagnosed.

Why do you say those that commit mass shootings are mentally ill? Based on what peer reviewed study? Do you also consider the CEOs of Amazon, Google, etc to be mentally ill when their greed and hoarding of resources leads to many more deaths than mass shootings do?
