We do a terrible job of addressing mental illness. We basically don’t address it at all. This sets people up to fail at society in myriad ways. And well-meaning people just declare mentally ill people “lazy” or “assholes” or whatever suits them, and down the toilet we continue.

Absolutely. It’s a mental health problem and no one wants to talk about that. It just comes down to the guns fault despite the fact there are millions of gun owners who don’t shoot up anyone. That’s the easy answer.

I’m sorry. Is it your argument that all men who are violent against women are in fact mentally ill? Because that would be one widespread epidemic.

Most men who are violent to anybody are suffering some sort of mental break, often exacerbated by substance abuse that usually starts out as an attempt at self-medicating. Psychotic breaks are a sign of underlying, untreated mental illness.
