Mobile prices have been dropping because technology gets better over time. Prices are dropping not because of higher concentration, but in spite of it. The right way to compare is to look at international prices, not 2009 vs 2015.https://twitter.com/jmrybnicek/status/991698305129308160 …

There was a price war in the mobile industry, and AT&T tried to stop it by buying T-Mobile in 2011. The Obama DOJ blocked the purchase, so prices continued to drop. Now
@geoffmanne is bragging about this policy success as if concentration drove lower prices. Up is down.1 odpowiedź 4 podane dalej 12 polubionychPokaż ten wątek -
So basically, technology tends to get better, and Obama kept mobile somewhat competitive by blocking AT&T from buying T-Mobile. That said, mobile prices are still insanely overpriced in the U.S. We have a bit of competition - imagine if we had more of it.

This is just a standard rhetorical trick, to claim that the success of an anti-monopoly policy (lower prices! cooler stuff!) is the result of the monopolistic power that hasn't been removed. Right-wing and left-wing monopolists have been using this rhetorical trick for 60 years.

A truly “free market” requires that we, the market, be able to say “no” altogether, though. And saying “no” to mobile smart phones is increasingly unrealistic.
