I haven’t dived into this particular bill, #AB3087, yet. But I can say that I got a rod put in my broken femur at a California Hospital Association member hospital almost exactly 5 years ago, & that surgery alone cost $64,000.
In Spain, it would’ve cost less than $9,000.

The main part of the story is that profits - even, paradoxically, at non-profit hospitals - are a major consideration. It's just that the profits are divvied up at the end of the year. Interestingly, 3/4 of the revenue of the hospital I'm referring to came from govt that year.pic.twitter.com/DLqI6FTqnH
