The second I saw he'd mentioned Obama I knew there'd be outrage. Context doesn't matter.

“Context doesn’t matter.” That’s the problem with identity politics: a true message can be obscured via irrational outrage and twisted smears. Social/mainstream media troll teams are always waiting to amplify it, until the outrage - not the context - becomes the story.

Yeah, but it's predictable, so he could avoid the traps a little better. It would also exhibit that he cares about how he's perceived by POC (knowing that if he says certain things the media will twist and present as if he doesn't).

I understand your point/concern but I don’t think Bernie has ever been one to shy away from hard truths, especially in remembrance of fallen heroes. He’s not a panderer. If progressives want to expand the base, our progressive reps can’t be walking on eggshells.

I don't think it requires a compromise of truth to consider perception. Not in a prepared speech, at least. And I think the salient points could have been made without mention of Obama. Just my opinion. Not a big deal. Still love Bernie and appreciate his honesty.

I just watched it again. It was pretty perfect and very complimentary of Obama. Shame it gets contorted. I'm not sure if he should just avoid saying "Obama" entirely or just not give a f.

Tell the truth all the time and let the pieces fall where they may. “Not today” is the start of dishonesty.

Look, Bernie endorsed Hillary, he's gone off about Russia, he's been willing to play within the system. Avoiding the name Obama wouldn't be some massive breech of ethics or honesty.

Eh... He’s an amazing orator, but Obama wasn’t a good president. He could’ve been not only the first black president, but also the greatest president in history. And he failed us. On purpose. Excluding him from criticism just because he’s black, regardless of the day, is wrong
