The truth is that I would much prefer that we not have the proliferation of guns that we have. I wouldn’t think it necessary to have *none* but we certainly shouldn’t have 350 million of them. But I know gun owners, and there’s no way in hell they’re going to turn in their guns.

And I’m not afraid of losing my gun rights. I’m also not afraid of being shot. But I *am* afraid that we on the left will go through all this effort to institute bans on certain weapons & it’ll do *nothing*. Kids will keep being murdered in schools because we don’t kill the root

And when that happens, the right is even *less* likely to listen to us when we go after the *actual* fixes - universal healthcare, and drastically reducing socioeconomic inequality. We’ll have expended this political capital for *nothing*.

And I’m going to be clear here: We won’t get effective gun legislation *or* healthcare/socioeconomic legislation without including the right in the discussion and convincing them that we need these things. Americans rightfully react poorly to being forced to do things.
