And I’m going to be clear here: We won’t get effective gun legislation *or* healthcare/socioeconomic legislation without including the right in the discussion and convincing them that we need these things. Americans rightfully react poorly to being forced to do things.
We need to reject this idea that we can create some utopia by forcing half the people to do things they don’t agree with. This polarization is a party tactic designed to kill discourse and benefit both parties. But we’re all people and can/should be reasoned with. My .02
3% of Americans own 50% of the guns in America. 58% of Americnas live in a gun free home. 66% of Americans — of both parties, including gun owners — favor much stronger gun laws.
Those statistics aren’t true. They’re based on voluntary surveys and gun owners lie when someone calls and asks them about their guns. This is a known fact in the gun industry. But again, those who don’t know guns or gun owners don’t bother to check.
