And when that happens, the right is even *less* likely to listen to us when we go after the *actual* fixes - universal healthcare, and drastically reducing socioeconomic inequality. We’ll have expended this political capital for *nothing*.
And I’m going to be clear here: We won’t get effective gun legislation *or* healthcare/socioeconomic legislation without including the right in the discussion and convincing them that we need these things. Americans rightfully react poorly to being forced to do things.
We need to reject this idea that we can create some utopia by forcing half the people to do things they don’t agree with. This polarization is a party tactic designed to kill discourse and benefit both parties. But we’re all people and can/should be reasoned with. My .02
