And it truly *does* bother me that the reason they likely don’t march for this issue is because the marchers overwhelmingly *have* health insurance. If you have insurance, you aren’t in danger of becoming a casualty of this injustice. But you can be shot either way.

And that, ultimately, makes this march, whether the marchers realize this or not, a march of privilege. It’s the privilege of being able to afford insurance that causes people not to march for those in need. It’s self-interest that causes them to march for gun control.

And if you think the despicable NRA lobbies congress and leads to the deaths of children, wait until you see the casualties of the healthcare lobby. Because more than likely, more US children die *every day* for lack of health insurance than have *ever* died in a mass shooting.

Now, add to this the fact that #UniversalHealthcare (probably #SinglePayer) would actually ensure that mentally ill/unstable people would be afforded help, which would reduce the instances of school shootings *and* suicides (which are 2/3 of gun deaths here), and it’s maddening.

And it should upset you, too. Because imagine if universal healthcare actually got this kind of a push, and this kind of media coverage. It could change the world. And unlike #GunControl #GunControlNow, it *would* immediately save *thousands* of American lives *every month*.

But it universal healthcare doesn’t get this kind of a push because the healthcare industry are also huge advertisers. And because, again, people don’t seem to care about deaths that won’t happen to them. This is why white people are less incensed about POC killed by police, too.

I encourage everybody to *always* #followthemoney. Ultimately, money is why certain things are covered by our media, and other things aren’t. It’s not morals or principles, it’s just money. The same money that allows 100 poor Americans per day to die for lack of health insurance

In the end, the hashtag says it best: It’s #MarchForOURLives, which denotes the self-interest at play. If people who have health insurance were to march for universal healthcare, it would be altruism; ie #MarchForTHEIRLives Self-interest, as always, is the problem here.
