You shouldn’t trust me, either. Trust should be hard to earn and easy to lose, especially for anybody seeking a position of power.

I agree! So how do unknown candidates gain trust? Beyond that, how do leaders outside one’s own community gain anything other than superficial trust? It’s not like we’re ever going to know each other personally or even have access to the same info for decision making.

We should have access to the same info for decision-making. If voters don’t know what their own government is doing, how can we possibly make informed decisions about who and what to vote for or against? The IC is a danger to our country. Secrets are a danger to any democracy.

I’m fine with experts handling intel. The general population has neither the education nor the experience to make decisions about every issue that’s classified. Additionally, how would we even get through the slog on a daily basis? WMDs— things of that nature, sure.

Name one time that trusting the intel community worked out.

Because you’re suggesting that we know everything?

You can’t make one time. Shouldn’t that tell you something?

You want me to tell you when the intelligence community has done something good when conducting covert operations? I guess I don’t need to explain why that’s ridiculous. The FBI helps find missing children. Does that work? Or are you looking for something more nefarious?

No, I want you to tell me when the IC has told us the truth about international affairs at a time when we needed to know that information.

Ridiculous question. Your assertions are that the general public should know every covert detail at every moment. Risking lives of Americans and national security is not a good idea.

If the voters don’t know what’s going on, how can they make informed decisions when they cast their votes?
