I’m not happy about the dems, but look at the spread: unanimous GOP approval vs split Dems. At least Dems have a principled majority

Agreed. Dems aren't great, but they are mostly ok. Which is leagues better than Gawd-awful. (Example: Today's GOP will never put a dent on the robocall problem. A Democratic majority might - there's more than a fighting chance. Very different from the 1970s-80s.)
